We’ve Come a Long Way Since Zack Morris and the Brick Phone: Infographic

You may have pulled some impressive tricks to veer away from revealing your real age (especially the ladies out there), but when you make mention about the days when you once used a Motorola Dynatac 8000x,  your cover is blown.   You are, in fact, more than 3 decades old.  Whoa!  I’m sure many of you remember the Dynatac.  The model was actually used in the first commercial for a mobile phone, released in the early part of the 1980’s.

If you recall this ad, you are one of the million viewers that was stunned by that “wireless” phone that “Zach Morris” was using in a favorite after-school TV show. But let’s look on the bright side.  You’re actually kind of lucky, because you have seen the mobile industry grow into the craze that it truly is today. You are a living testimony that evolution can happen even in non-human form.

What used to be a luxury is now a necessity, with 6.5 out of 10 people carrying cell phones all over the world. And that little device, perhaps, is the most used, touched, loved and handled device on the planet. With over 500,000 apps available and 5 billion downloads that went down in 2010, this industry is booming, in interest, adoption and revenue.

However, with the rising demand for iPhone and Android devices comes the nemesis-– scary security attacks on mobile phones. Just recently, researchers have unveiled the vast number of malware intrusions on Androids, via USB and other channels. But, come hell or high waters, mobile phone will continue to reach heights and before you know it, your iPad could already be obsolete.  Here we have an infographic from Lookout Mobile Security, outlining the evolution of the mobile phone, and highlighting how it’s intertwined with our very culture.
