Diskeeper Launches New Analytics Product, Industry Gets Heated
Data protection, hardware optimization and backup are some of the hottest trends in the cloud right now, and we’ve just got an upgrade from Diskeeper. The veteran data performance software vendor, which has been around since 1986, today announced the latest version of its flagship product: Diskeeper 2011. The offering seems to bring along some very impressive features, which add up to a level way beyond just.
Here are some of the new features, as noted in a release:
“Exclusive IntelliWrite technology. The O/S activity of writing files in pieces to the disk (fragmentation) can be prevented before it happens – up to 85% and more. Extremely valuable for thin provisioned storage and SAN as well as all other systems.
New Instant Defrag. Instant Defrag, new in Diskeeper 2011, works in conjunction with IntelliWrite to quickly eliminate any fragments not prevented during the initial write.”
Diskeeper handles those fragments in real-time by passing them to the Instant Defrag engines. Another new feature is Efficient Mode, which utilizes only the minimum disk I/O to operate and target fragmentations for priority handling. In addition to these features, Diskeeper also comes with another exclusive one – the overhauled InvisiTasking technology, supposed to seriously speed up the defrag process. The last new tweak is the HyperFast solid state drive optimizer, designed to optimize SSDs.
Diskeeper has been around for a long time, and with positive reviews such as this latest one and a customer base including 90% of Fortune 500 companies, its offerings – and hopefully the latest one – stand up among the crowd. However, the market is heating up, considering IObit just announced Smart Defrag 2. The free consumer product won’t have any effect on Diskeeper’s enterprise market share, where sufficient defrag offerings are required to maintain and optimize backups, which is a crucial element of data protection both in the cloud. This industry includes countless offerings such as the latest version of BluePointe DRS’ Secure Cloud backup solution, and FalconStor Continuous Data Protector (CDP), which is now also used by Radley + Co.
