Mobility and open cloud are two main focuses of Citrix today. A leader in end-to-end virtualization, networking and SaaS has recently bagged the Best of Interop 2011 Award for the wireless and mobility category—proof that Citrix is also dead serious about other segments of its business beyond the open cloud.
The award-winning Citrix server is used by companies to deliver secure and accurate corporate data, business applications and desktops from any mobile devices including smartphones and tablets. Particularly for the iPad, it makes it easy to take the virtual office on the go and have real-time access to critical business information. The recently concluded SAP Sapphire 2011 has prolifically discussed mobile apps and cloud services. The trends being created by these two are becoming extremely significant.
The company is teaming up with another familiar face, RackSpace to offer a hosted desktop virtualization service to virtualize smartphones and tablets that employees bring to the office. The latest killer app that will be supporting HP WebOS tablet was also created by Citrix. Earlier this year, the Florida-based enterprise also enabled the “employee everywhere”.
Wes Wasson, SVP and chief marketing officer at Citrix further explains the concept behind this app for employees who are always out of the office. He said, “There’s always been an outlier case for a certain small set of people being out of the office whether it was because of traffic or certain jobs like sales that require it. Now the average worker spends at least some time out of the office.”
Citrix has made some organizational updates with a puzzled partnership with Cisco and two new executives, VP of Strategic Alliances and VP of Alliance and Community Marketing to build stronger bases for cloud computing and mobility.
There are several things going on around Citrix and its market. These and many other virtual computing platforms will be showcased in the anticipated three-day event, Citrix Synergy 2011 in San Francisco, where we’ll be live broadcasting and conducting on-site interviews on SiliconAngle.tv.
