Dell and HP Crank Up Competition with Memorial Day Deals

Long time competitors Dell and Hewlett-Packard are celebrating Memorial Day 2011 today with a long line-up of discounts. Dell will only offer its discounts today while HP is extending its own to an extra day, and as it seems, competition over consumer’s hearts and pockets is livelier than ever.

“We do not want to go down the route of all the individual deals that Dell and HP are offering during Memorial Day 2011; but we will tell you that they both currently have free shipping on all orders. Doing a quick scan it looks as though Dell might have the edge, but that is all down to you to decide.”

Both companies have put an emphasis on the desktop section, and offers extras such as memory upgrades and a complimentary Office Home & Student bundle. To date, Hewlett-Packard seems to be winning the battle as the no. 1 PC maker in the world, Dell’s previous title. HP is followed by Acer and Apple, alongside Dell at no. 4. Apple in particular have seen tremendous growth thanks to soaring iPad sales, though HP only reported a 2.9 percent revenue growth in its recent earnings call.

It’s deals and promos like these that Dell and HP hope will help sell their wide range of products. In a major push to stay relevant in the market, HP recently launched a whole line-up of “consumer friendly business laptops.” Among them are two new tablet-laptop hybrids, the Pavilion dv4, HP Mini 210 and the HP Envy 15. These laptops carry a number of extra business-oriented features, such as remote swipe and a fingerprint reader.

Dell in turn is prepping for some big launches its own. The upcoming  XPS 15z will challenge the MacBook Air. Further, Dell is also in talks to get label rights from Google to launch the Android-powered Pro Tablet.
