SAP and Sybase: Harmony for Social Enterprise

Looks like SAP and Sybase are already prepared to execute and exploit the potential in their partnership. Sybase is a world leader in business intelligence, database management software and has a solid mobile portfolio. SAP, on the other hand, is a billion-dollar brand and a corporation that delivers enterprise software applications and support to businesses around the globe. When put together, SAP and Sybase is a match made in heaven.

Now, the two companies are testing their cohesiveness as one strategic unit within the mobile realm. SAP revealed its huge interest in growing their business and capitalizing on business intelligence and mobile apps in the recent SAP Sapphire 2011. Mobility and data analytics are the organization’s key focuses as they explore their future (and bigger revenue, of course) with big data analytics and social enterprise. Having Sybase onboard is a huge thrust to their aspirations.

A recent study shows that companies are now more open in pursuing software offerings and initiatives, rather than concentrating their investments on improving the existing products, solutions and services. And this is where SAP and Sybase fusion hopes to arrive. Following the launch of Sybase Unwired 2.0 in SAP Sapphire 2011, SAP co-chief executive Jim Hagemann Snabe said, “So far mobility is a consumer play. We believe it’s time to connect mobility to business processes and information.” This program offers a lot for developers—this Unwired Platform will enable them to create traditional enterprise mobile applications and hybrid apps that work within a Web browser, but still have the classic richness of the UI of a native app.

Present at the same event is Raj Nathan, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Sybase who said, “The pervasiveness of mobility and impact on consumers to businesses make it one of the most profound transformations in IT history. It is proven that regardless of industry or size, a mobile enterprise is a fertile field for business innovation, competitive growth and profitability.”

SAP has also triggered partnerships to cement their stance as industry leader and innovator. They just announced a team-up with Cisco to enable real-time access to business insight and optimize delivery of business intelligence. SAP and Microsoft also formed a tandem to ease cloud deployments.

SAP’s acquisition of Sybase is perhaps one of the best decisions they’ve made to dethrone Oracle and penetrate new markets.
