Intel is demonstrating a console for managing security and power management for OpenStack here at the Intel Developer Forum.
We saw a demo of the management console yesterday. I did a quick interview with Intel’s Billy Cox, who runs the company’s Cloud Builder program.
The demo is not the most elegant I’ve seen. The console is built on Life Ray, a Java-based collaboration platform. One observer asked: “Why not something more lightweight like Django?”
But on the other hand, the demo shows that Intel really is doing something for OpenStack. It’s not just a marketing gimmick to be part of the program.
Cox says in the interview that he believes that it will be a few OpenStack releases before the console will be deployed. And that goes in line with what I am hearing about OpenStack. It still needs some time before it will truly be ready to compete against VMware in the open market.
