iPhone 5 Could Be Biggest Mobile Launch to Date
After months of speculation, Apple finally broke their silence. Apple sent out e-mails to select reporters inviting them to an event at their Cupertino headquarters on October 4th at 10 A.M. PT. The message of the said e-mail contained “Let’s talk iPhone.”
The news is a big development surrounding heightening expectations around the next iPhone, which continues a people’s love for well-designed devices and innovative technology. Even as Android OS grows to become the dominant mobile platform, Apple continues to set standards around its devices, amassing a culture dedicated to its products and services.
Mobile ad network InMobi reiterates consumers’ love for Apple, revealing some insight to iPhone expectations. Forty-one percent of current mobile users in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada plan to buy an iPhone 5, potentially making it the most successful launch from the consumer electronics giant to date. Their study finds that over 50% of those users will make the purchase within the first six months of the iPhone 5 launch, which could take Apple significantly ahead of its June 2011 market position, and increase its mobile platform market share from 27% in June (comScore Inc., August 2011) to 41%. But if Apple will only launch an update, interested consumers drop to 15%.
Traditionally Apple’s fall events center on their iPod products, like updates, new versions of iPods and revamping of iTunes, but since iPod sales continue to decline, it looks like the iPods are taking a backseat at this season’s event, especially with the invite’s focus on the iPhone. Also, October 24 will mark the iPod’s 10th year anniversary, a perfect time to celebrate the product that kick-started Apple’s reign with an introduction of a new line of iPods and updates or the perfect time to end the iPod’s existence.
But the question still remains, what iPhone or iPhones are they going to show off at the next week’s event? Remember former vice president Al Gore’s slip when he mentioned iPhones? Some say that Apple will launch 2 iPhones, a cheaper iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5, while others say that only one iPhone will be released, and it would look exactly like the iPhone 4, but with some modifications.
As for the sale of the iPhone, it looks like partner carriers are also gearing up for the sale of the device. Earlier this week, rumor has it that Apple blocked their employees’ vacation leave set for October 9-12 and 14-15 and now sources say that AT&T and Sprint also denied their employees to take a vacation leave in the first two weeks of October.
