Juniper Networks Works with Samsung on Enterprise Mobile Security

Seoul-based mobile manufacturer Samsung and Juniper Networks have launched a joint initiative to tap companies customers that are expanding their mobile fronts by bringing together Android and enterprise-grade security.

Juniper’s Junos Pulse and Junos Pulse Mobile Security Suite will be installed on a number of Samsung’s devices, starting with GALAXY Note, GALAXY SII and GALAXY Tab 10.1.

“Juniper and Samsung are committed to a partnership wherein the two companies will continue to deliver secure, business-ready solutions enhancing security posture for enterprises and enabling new differentiated offerings for service providers,” said Sanjay Beri, vice president and GM of Juniper’s Junos Pulse unit.

Junipers’ software adds several essential enterprise security functions to Samsung’s devices, including secure VPN access to company networks and automatic malware removable.  Some of the other features including remote administration, including the ability to lock out a user out of an app so that for instance  it would not be able to delete important data.

Security represents a vital element in enterprise adoption of mobile technology, not to mention user flexibility.  These can prove to be highly contradictive in most environments, but IBM is trying to pull it off regardless . The company will allow half of its workforce of 400,000 to use their own mobile devices at work sometime in 2012, and enable users to leverage apps that have not be pre-approved by the IT department. This is thanks to a broad spectrum of security measures, some of which are still in development.

EMC virtualization subsidiary VMware is also looking into growing user flexibility while enhancing security at the same time. It hopes to achieve that using VMware Horizon Mobile, a so-called dual-persona application that lets users run two profiles on their phones – one for work, and one containing their personal data. Horizon is gaining support, and the latest two partners that signed up are Verizon and Telefónica.
