After the successful launch of the initial Xoom tablet last year, Motorola is coming up with its next set of Xoom tablets, just as the holiday season approaches.  The company is launching two Android based tablets today, which are for users in United Kingdom and Ireland. While the first one is the conventional 10-inch Xoom 2 with built-in options for business users, the second is the 8.2-inch Xoom 2 Media Edition.  Motorola is utilizing Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system  for both tablets.

For the technical features, both Xoom 2 tablets are powered by dual-core 1.2 GHz processors, support Wi-Fi connectivity, and sport a front 1.3 megapixel camera and back 5 MP camera – both with digital zoom, auto focus, and LED flash.  They also have 1 gigabyte of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage.  Interestingly, Corning’s Gorilla Glass and a special splash-guard coating is used for the display to make it more sturdy, durable, and stain resistant.

“Tablets are quickly becoming a must-have tool for staying connected, getting work done and having fun at home and on the road,” Victoria McManus, marketing director U.K. & Ireland for Motorola Mobility, said in a statement. “We are very excited about these two new additions to our tablet portfolio that build on the success of the original Motorola Xoom to now deliver more powerful tablet experiences to the European market.”

According to Motorola, it has included a new MotoCast app that allows users to wirelessly stream music, photos, videos, and other content between their tablets and their PCs. It is also providing a “Work and Play” kit that lets users to connect the tablets to an HDTV and control them via a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

The larger Xoom 2 tablet is similar to original tablet, but comes with a brighter and better display quality.  As the larger Xoom 2 is a perfect tool for business class users, the smaller one is a power pack for entertainment lovers.  Apart from pre-loaded remote control apps, its screen offers a 178 degree viewing angle to let more than one person watch movies or videos at the same time.

These Xoom 2 tablets will be available at Carphone Warehouse in the U.K. and Ireland, along with Best Buy, PC World, Dixons, and Currys in the U.K.  Though Motorola itself is very optimistic about its new Xoom 2 tablets, we have yet to see these actually perform in the market, especially when there is already cut-throat competition in the tablet space.
