Scale-out SAN appliance maker Nutanix demonstrated the performance of its Fusion ioMemory-powered Nutanix Complete Cluster in 50-node benchmark. Each node was equipped with a 320 GB ioDrive.
This marks the latest milestone for Fusion-io, a Utah-based manufacturer of flash storage systems and related software that are known for delivering significant performance boosts.
“The innovative use of Fusion ioMemory in Nutanix’s converged compute and storage architecture maximizes performance for demanding virtualization use cases,” said Will Hall, Fusion-io VP of OEM Sales. “This benchmark test shows that performance scales linearly, saving capital and time for enterprise organizations as they grow their deployments. Fusion-io is proud to be working with Nutanix on this new approach to harnessing the power of ioMemory technology for customers’ enterprise virtualization needs.”
The 50-node configuration produced 375,000 random write I/O operations per second and 224 Gbps of read bandwidth. A single Nutanix Complete Block compromised of four blocks delivered 25,000 random write IOPS and 16 Gbps. The twelve blocks in the configuration squeezed into a mere 3/5 of a rack according to the company, which it claims to be two to five times smaller than traditional server and network storage.
Both Nutanix and Fusion-io have had a few updates recently. The former announced a $25 million funding round led by Khosla Ventures late last month. It’s one of the first that has been funded by Khosla Ventures IV, a fresh $1 billion fund that focuses mainly on early stage tech startups.
Fusion-io in turn is capitalizing on the success of its IPO and the rise its shares have seen recently. The company will sell $100 million of its stock in an upcoming public offering, and another $200 million worth will be sold by existing shareholders according to an SEC filing.
