Robots are great, but cloud robotics are genius.  But what exactly is a cloud robot?  Here’s Mario Tremblay’s definition of this amazing development.

“For me, cloud robotics happens when we connect robots to the Internet and then, by doing so, robots become augmented with more capacity and intelligence. The cloud lets them communicate with other machines and serve their human operators better. Connected robots equal augmented robots. By collaborating with other machines and humans, robots transcend their physical limitations and become more useful and capable, since they can delegate parts of their tasks to more suitable parties” says Tremblay, the founder of RobotShop.

To put things into realistic terms, Tremblay launched a cloud-based service earlier this year called MyRobots.  During its early launch, Tremblay had the lofty objective of creating a bridge between the manufacturers and customers.  It’s an app that allows robotics products to be monitored, repaired, conditioned, and smoothly updated, as well as managing the devices’ high level of performance processing, learning and the needs on communication.  Because of this, MyRobots will be able to help solve questions, concerns and issues, with regards to the development of the industry.

And just last week, the MyRobots site posted a timer to countdown their beta launch for December 20, 2011.

“Tomorrow, connecting robots to the Internet will be a common and standard functionality. This is part of the “Internet of things” where all intelligent objects will be connected to the Cloud. Intelligent objects can be considered as robots and they have all kinds of shapes. Cloud robotics is a big leap since the invention of robots.  The recognition of human about what robots can do has brought us to this era.  As a matter of fact, Robots are said to be doing things better than humans do.

It has been estimated that around 100 million robots will come to life between 2020 and 2035.  Back in 2007, Bill Gates envisioned that there would one day be “one robot in every home.”   Having said this, the greatest challenge in the coming years is making sure humans aren’t overshadowed by these robots.  Afterall, humans are still the creators, and I think we’ve all seen enough sci-fi movies to know better.
