Google Apps continues to win major contracts in the U.S. Federal Government with the help of Unisys, which continues to focus on integrating Google Apps for Government into a number of federal agencies.
Unisys announced today that 25,000 users from the National Oceanic and Atmosphere to the Google Apps for Government email and collaboration platform. Unisys claims it is the largest transition to Google’s cloud services by a federal agency to date.
Unisys has taken the lead among the large services providers in offering Google Apps to federal agencies.
Earlier this month, Unisys was awarded a contract to transition 5,000 users at the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Idaho National Laboratory.
And in July, Unisys moved 17,000 General Services Administration (GSA) users to Google Apps for Government.
In the overall services market, social business is a big focus as more companies transition to modern apps for messaging and communications. This was quite evident at IBM Lotusphere this past week. Social business took center stage as IBM announced a number of new features to its Lotus Connect social networking technology. Services are a a major aspect of IBM deployments.
Unisys will benefit handsomely from these contracts. The DOE relationship has a potential value to Unisys of more than $10 million over the next 10 year
