Online retail giant Amazon adds yet another credible name to its board. Elected last Wednesday, Jamie Gorelick was former deputy attorney general during the Clinton administration and has been a partner to WilmerHale Law Firm since 2003 to head groups that handle defense, government contracts and public policy. She was installed in the 9/11 Commission and CIA’s National Security Advisory Panel as well, and is currently connected to the Defense Policy Board at the Department of Defense.

Gorelick was also said to be part of the “litigation/controversy” department. It will come in handy as Amazon strives to maintain competitive tax advantages over physical stores, and battles patent issues.

“Ms. Gorelick’s career has spanned the legal, policy and corporate landscape,” notes her WilmerHale bio. “Over the course of her career, she has represented diverse interests in complex civil and criminal litigation, internal corporate investigations and counseling on issues at the intersection of law, policy and governance. As one of Washington’s best-known litigators, Ms. Gorelick has represented corporations and individuals in a wide array of problems, particularly in the regulatory and enforcement arenas.”

Amazon’s not the only company to add people to its board in recent weeks. Yahoo recently added two new names, former Rovi CEO Fred Amoroso and LiveOps Maynard Webb. There will be three more to join, though the company has yet to announce who these people are.  It’s also unclear who will take the position as the Yahoo’s board chair.

We also have RIM scrambling up its leadership. As co-chief execs and co-chairmen Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis steps down to make way for new leadership, Thorsten Heins will serve as new chief executive and president of RIM. Barbara Stymeist will become the company’s new chairwoman.

While there is ingress, there are exists as well. Four of Yahoo’s board members departed, including Chairman Roy Bostock. Executives at Hewlett Packard were also leaving which includes Lawrence Babbio, Vyomesh Joshi, Gary Wilson and Arthur Kern.
