There’s an ongoing discussion circulating throughout the IT industry in anticipation of the big data-cloud convergence, and the result is always apps. Applications are expected to start leveraging datasets to deliver a higher level of service, and Flow Corporation is realizing this vision with its newest product.
The Flow Platform is a software-as-a-service that offers hosted data processing, routing and interoperability to developers. For example, a user could architect their app to track social media reactions and customize outputs based on them; and data from different consumer facing departments in the enterprise can be aggregated to be processed in a more consolidated fashion.
“Real-time applications, stream-processing, information interoperability, and dynamic data routing are not new concepts in the enterprise, particularly in the financial sector,” said Flow founder and CEO Eric Alterman. “However, making these solutions ubiquitously available across all industry sectors with fast, flexible, and reliable deployments for a fraction of the cost is game-changing. Equally important, our customers will have access to these powerful capabilities through an intuitive interface and well-documented APIs, without having to worry about building a scalable, feature rich real-time architecture from scratch.”
Flow features a point-and-click interface along with open APIs, and is meant for enterprises and marketers.
SaaS is already a major trend, and big data is getting bigger. Today the two industries are meeting each other, and vendors like Flow are moving in to capitalize on it.
Nevertheless, SaaS in and of itself is still very much a big market. Earlier this month we had an interesting merger between a Google cloud partner and a Salesforce one; both of which have seen tremendous growth lately. And the new firm got off on the right foot as well with some early on finding.
