Wyse Buy: Dell Expands Virtualization Offerings with Latest Acquisition

As part of Dell’s efforts to expand desktop virtualization offerings, it acquires cloud client computing company Wyse Technology under unknown terms.

Wyse’s portfolio is inclusive of thin, zero and cloud PC client solutions with advanced management, desktop virtualization and cloud software supporting desktops, laptops and next generation mobile devices. It offers cloud clients, cloud storage, mobility and virtualization software.

Since inception, Wyse has sold 20 million units worldwide with a user base of 200 million. It currently holds over 180 issued and pending patents under solutions, software and differentiated intellectual property.

On a clear path towards expanded virtualization solutions, Dell also unveiled three new desktop virtualization offerings shortly before the Wyse acquisition: DVS Simplified Appliance, DVS Enterprise, and DVS Simplified DaaS. Each of these three consists of Dell server, OEM’s software and VDI components from partners and is designed for different clients.

Last month, Wyse Technology exhibited its broad portfolio and end-to-end solution at Cisco Live 2012, announcing support for customers using Microsoft’s System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) as well, allowing them to use it with the Windows Embedded Device Manager (WEDM) product to manage updates and patches to supported Wyse Windows Embedded-based thin clients with management of the write filter.

Wyse Technologies is also known for its PocketCloud Remote Desktop Pro mobile app. It is a secure and fast way to remotely connect to your Mac or Windows desktop via iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.
