AppSense Acquires RAPsphere to Secure Mobile Enterprise

AppSense is looking to expand its foothold in the mobile enterprise, and in order to establish such a position it needs to pull several things together. One element is security, which the VDI solutions provider addressed this week for the acquisition of RAPsphere. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and is expected to officially close later this quarter; the redirect message is already up on RAPsphere’s site.

The  Redwood City, CA startup develops monitoring and data management software designed to supplement corporate BYOD initiatives, which require a lot of security and admin control. The entire RAPsphere team will be preserved  in the merger.

AppSense CEO Darron Antill released a statement regarding the deal:

“We understand the needs of enterprise organizations dealing with disruptive mobile technologies driving BYOD and the need for greater governance of users,” said Darron Antill, CEO of AppSense. “There is a critical need to protect corporate applications and data on employee-owned devices. RAPsphere will be an important and strategic acquisition that enables us to advance our user virtualization solutions. We are excited to welcome this team of mobile IT experts into the AppSense family.”

This move is a very significant one, but it’s not the first of AppSense’s advances in the mobile security space. A couple days before the news hit, SiliconANGLE founder John Furrier commented on the company, its mode, and DataNow. The latter is a tool unveiled last month that ties in rather nicely with what RAPsphere has to offer – it automated the authorizations of mobile users accessing the corporate network.

In February AppSense crossed another milestone when it announced that it’s opening up three new outlets  spread throughout South America and the Asia-Pacific after a highly success growth period and a YoY sales increase of 46 percent.
