SAP Reveals Mobile Innovations Ahead of SAPphire 2012

SAP SAPphire Now 2012 is kicking off today, and among the early news that the German BI software maker announced are two major expansions to its mobile portfolio.

Mobile and the HANA in-memory analytics platform will be two of the hottest discussion points at the event, and we’ll be covering in all this week.   New is the unveiling of something SAP calls the Situation Awareness “rapid-deployment solution for public sector.”

The details are a bit hazy overall, but the product description outlines a data-driven mobile offering – or rather, an entire portfolio of solutions – built to provide real-time information to public safety officials handling a potentially dangerous situation.  The company says that the new software is a combination of several different innovations.

“We’re giving heroes with smartphones more complete data at superhuman speed, and this has an impact on lives in a way that is very powerful,” said Steven Birdsall, senior vice president and general manager, SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions. “With more than 75 rapid-deployment solutions available, we are offering pre-assembled, easy-to-consume answers to real problems.”

Alongside this announcement SAP launched another set of mobile applications today, only for enterprise. This lineup includes tools such as Learning Assistant, which aims to help workers speed up training; the SAP Learning Assistant, and several banking and online payment apps partially based on technology from Sybase.
