IBM Touts SmartCloud Advancements, Products

Big Blue’s SmartCloud Services portfolio reach several impressive milestones recently, including adding a notable list of new clients in a relatively short period of time.

The IT behemoth says that more than one million business users work with applications hosted on IBM’s Cloud, a platform that powers 4.5 million transactions a day. Those in turn add up to about $100 billion in commerce every year, and counting.

“Companies are starting to understand that cloud is more than just about gaining efficiencies and cost savings, it’s about driving the kind of fundamental innovation that provides lasting marketplace advantage,” said Paul Loftus, general manager, IBM Global Technology Services.

The enterprises using IBM’s platform each have their own statistics to brag about as well. CloudTopCoder for one, a site with a community of over 400,000 developers, is moving its entire user base to IBM SmartCloud Enterprise.

Another company migrating to Big Blue’s platform is Ogilvy & Mather, an international advertising firm that is also a customer of SAP.  Integration is a big part, if not the main highlight, of the deal.

The release goes on to list several other case studies, along with a substantial update to the SmartCloud lineup. Version 2.1 of the Enterprise edition features an improved SLA and support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8 and 6.2. Performance has been optimized as well.

In addition, Enterprise + is now available in North America and Europe, while Application Services is moving out of beta stage.  IBM’s platform-as-a-service is now in beta, giving more clients the option of signing up.
