HP Discover 2012 Kicks Off with New Integration for ProLiant Gen8, NonStop and More
HP Discover 2012 officially kicked off today in Las Vegas, and will continue until June 7th. The four-day event will showcase new innovations on Cloud Solutions, Security and Risk Management, and more.
Here are some of the early announcements from HP Discover:
Tributary announced the only native attachment of HP StoreOnce D2D De-Dupe to HP Nonstop
Tributary Systems, the company that develops, sells and supports unified backup storage, remote replication and disaster recovery solutions, unveiled today the native attachment of the HP StoreOnce D2D De-duplication solution to HP NonStop Systems.
“Now enterprises running mission critical applications on HP NonStop systems can take advantage of the improved deduplication efficiency and reduced bandwidth requirements provided by the HP StoreOnce D2D VTL and De-duplication Backup System,” Tributary CEO Shawn Sabanayagam said at the event.
Tributary, an HP OEM storage supplier for 16 years, is the only one who can provide a native attachment to HP StoreOnce D2D backup systems for enterprises relying on HP NonStop systems, by using Tributary’s LMM (Library Media Manager) backup/media management application. LMM makes the HP StoreOnce D2D VTL and de-duplication appliance look to the HP NonStop like an HP MSL or HP EML tape library. Tributary’s SMM/LMM media management software application, the only backup/media management application in existence today for HP NonStop servers, has been supplied to HP’s NonStop Enterprise Division since 1997 under an OEM agreement.
Spirent tests performance and scale of HP Enterprise Routers
Spirent Communications, a global leader in testing networks, services and devices, announced that HP used Spirent TestCenter and Spirent Avalanche to validate that HP’s branch and campus routers deliver superior performance for cloud, rich media and enterprise applications. HP is using Spirent’s test solutions to demonstrate the performance of the HP 6608 campus router at the HP Discover event.
“Today’s networks are ill equipped to handle the traffic growth from mobility, bring your own device initiatives and bandwidth intensive rich media applications, like web conferencing,” said Sam Rastogi, global product marketing manager, Networking, HP. “HP’s tested and validated routers provide performance that is more than four times that of the competition, while also delivering scalability that meets network demands anywhere, anytime.”
Spirent TestCenter along with Spirent Avalanche tested that the HP 6608 router delivered key performance metrics such as 108 million packets per second (Mpps) forwarding performance, 60 Gbps firewall, 340,000 TCP connections/sec, 20,000 Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE)tunnels, and fast convergence. This translates to tens of thousands of users across multiple branch offices simultaneously accessing applications, cloud and rich media sessions. Spirent also tested the routing and service performance of the HP MSR50 Series router, showing that the HP MSR50 Series delivered 1280 thousand packets per second (Kpps) forwarding performance and 2 Gbps of routing, firewall, network address translation (NAT), and quality of service (QoS) traffic.
“Spirent TestCenter is the ideal solution to demonstrate HP’s campus core and branch router metrics because we test performance at scale with real traffic,” said Spirent’s senior product marketing manager Rajesh Rajamani. “For HP’s large multi-location clients, the challenge is to provide connectivity across multiple branch offices, with functionality such as dual-stack IPv4 and IPv6 routing, QoS, security, and tunneling. We thoroughly test the router’s performance as it scales to support various types of traffic to ensure the network elements will be able to match real-world demand.”
HP ProLiant Gen8 Servers Integrate New AMD Opteron Processors
AMD, a semiconductor design innovator, announced that 11 servers from their customers, including two based on the new HP ProLiant Gen8 platform, will be integrated with the previously unannounced versions of the award-winning high-performance AMD Opteron 6200 Series processor and the low-power AMD Opteron 4200 Series processor which are based on five new AMD Opteron processors that offer increased performance without an increase in power consumption, providing customers more choice in using the world’s best price/performance x86 server processor.
“Since the launch of our latest AMD Opteron processors based on our ‘Bulldozer’ core, we have seen steadily increasing demand for our high-end processors,” said Lisa Su, senior vice president and general manager, AMD Global Business Units. “The new additions to the AMD Opteron processor family, along with the latest offerings from HP and Dell, further strengthen our ability to offer greater choices to an agile and data-hungry base of enterprise and cloud customers.”
