Xeround is a company that offers a database-as-a-service for MySQL apps that runs on platforms such as Amazon Web Services. The firm already optimized its solution for the majority of the more prominent names in the IaaS industry, and as of late it has started taking the smaller ones into account as well.
Today Xeround said its software is now available on the Joyent Cloud, an emerging player that can’t match AWS in scale just yet but is still fairly popular. At the moment, Xeround’s support only extends to the free edition of its database, but the software maker said it has plans to expand it to other parts of its portfolio in the future.
“At Joyent, our entire focus is on providing customers the performance, scalability, and reliability that their applications demand,” said Joyent Cloud General Manager Steve Tuck. “With the help of Xeround, our customers can spend more time differentiating their applications while enjoying the benefits of Xeround’s highly-available and zero-maintenance cloud database.”
Xeround FREE has only been around since February. At first it was offered only through EC2 and Heroku, with one major drawback that hasn’t been taken out just yet: the trial version comes with a mere 100MB worth of storage. The partnership with Joyent is a definite milestone but it depends on what the two companies will make of it: adoption at this stage will most likely be sluggish in light of the bargain’s rather limited nature.
Just last month Xeround announced that it’s supporting two additional cloud services. AppHarbor .NET and AppFog preceded the Joyent Cloud by a few weeks, each bringing a new audience to the table: the first introduced the DBaaS to the sizable pool of developers that work with the popular Windows framework, and the second to the PHP community.
