Samsung continues to investigate exploding SIII

An Irish consumer reported in a forum that while driving with his Galaxy SIII on his car mount, “suddenly a white flame, sparks and a bang came out of the phone.”  Initial investigation stated that there was nothing wrong with the phone, with the owner stating that the explosion may have been due to the combination of his car mount and his car’s heating system.  Samsung still replaced his device and is still investigating the matter.

“Our initial investigation found no fault with the phone, but we’ll conduct further investigations to decide the exact cause of the problem,” spokesman James Chung said, adding the result of those investigations could be released as early as next week.

Flipboard officially launched for Android

In May, when the Galaxy SIII launched, a leaked copy of Flipborad for Android also made its way to the public.  The unofficial version was released at  XDA developers forum, which was supposed to be available when the SIII became available.

Now that SIII is officially out, the official Android Flipboard app is also available for people to enjoy.  Android users can now download the app from Google Play for free.  You can also download the app from Amazon’s app store and Barnes & Noble Nook App Store.

Nintendo upgrades 3DS

At the Nintendo Direct Conference, the company announced an upgrade to their 3DS handheld gaming console.  The 3DS XL is the larger version of the 3DS that features a 4.88 inch stereoscopic 3D top screen, and a 4.18inch bottom screen.  It also sports an extended battery life of 3.5 – 6.5 hours of gameplay.  But what would be missing from the console is a second circle pad and that the ‘Circle Pad Pro’ attachment will not be compatible with the 3DS XL.

The 3DS XL will be shipped with a 4GB SD card, an upgrade from the 2GB card that came with the original 3DS, but, in order to keep costs at a minimum, it will not come with an AC adaptor in Europe and Japan. The adaptor and charging cradle will be sold separately and the 3DS, DSi and DSi XL AC adaptor will be compatible with the new machine. The 3DS XL will come packaged with an AC adaptor in North America.

The 3DS XL will be available in Europe on July 28 and will come in three colors: blue, red and silver.  The release of the 3DS XL will be accompanied by the release of four new 3DS games namely Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, New Art Academy and Freaky Forms Deluxe.
