This week’s app roundup is all about simplicity, and one of the featured apps even has the word in its name.
iPad
Simplenote for iPad tops the list, and the reason is that the application offers exactly what it promises. The app replaced fluff and an over-bloated feature list with automatic note-syncing that the user only has to setup, finding solace in Simplenote’s clean interface. There are several other capabilities that supplement rather than add bulk to this core concept.
Springpad is Simplenote’s much more popular cousin. It covers the same grounds as the latter but adds more flavor to the mix with more specific features such as a clipboard for grocery shopping, and collaboration that spans from plain photo sharing to document sharing with co-workers. The Android version has recently been updated as well: check it out here.
OmniGraphSketcher is a more technical version of the popular OmniGraffle data visualization tool by the Omni Group. It gives the user the basic, as well as the not-so-basic tools they need to lay out their information – whether it’s financial data or sales statistics. It’s just as aesthetic and well-designed as OmniGraffle, although a bit lackluster when it comes to file export options.
Android
Fancy is touted as a ‘part blog, part magazine and part bookmarking tool,’ and that’s probably the based way to describe it. The app provides the user with an environment to aggregate pictures, data and all their favorite snippets from across the internet in one place, and then organize it all in a very visualized but more importantly accessible way.
TripAdvisor also aggregates data that the user wants to see. The travel helper gives you access to a database of over 50 million travel destinations worldwide, with pictures and reviews to supplement. On top of that there’s a tool that takes in an address and displays all the tourism hotspots nearby.
