Xeround Strengthens Strategy with Plan Changes, More Rackspace Options

Today cloud database software provider Xeround announced an update to all three versions of its offering.

The free edition, which comes with a mere 10 megabytes of capacity, one megabyte of throughput and five connections, is now available for Rackspace Cloud users.  It’s not much and is only enough to allow any potential customer to test the waters before committing to a monthly subscription, but it represents a notable milestone for the company nonetheless.

The two paid plans have also been upgraded. Xeround increased the maximum data size of the BASIC edition to half a gigabyte, and increased the cap on the number of connections to 40. The pricing is $17/month on Amazon Web Services and $33 on Rackspace.

Lastly, the premium Xeround PRO option which offers a maximum of 50 gigabytes can support unlimited throughout and a maximum of 4,800 connections.

“We’re thrilled to offer our FREE Cloud Database on Rackspace and are continuously improving our product to better cater to market demands,” said Razi Sharir, CEO of Xeround. “Rackspace users can now experience the most robust solution for running MySQL in the cloud with no installation, configuration or management overhead, and at no cost.”

The Xeround FREE update is a big gesture aimed at this particular audience, but the boost to the other two editions is more significant. Big data is a trend that’s evolving simultaneously across multiple verticals, and customers in practically all of them – including those who use Xeround’s service – have to accommodate datasets that are growing at an increasingly rapid pace. The company is simply catching up.

Previously Xeround announced that it added support for the Joyent Cloud. Right now only one of the three options is available on the PaaS but the vendor stated that support will be expanded in the coming months.
