Appsecute Launches PaaS Management for the Multi-Cloud Future

Starting today, Appsecute is offering a public beta of its namesake offering: A management portal that enables administrators and developers to monitor and maintain applications and services across Cloud Foundry-based public platform-as-a-service (PaaS) clouds with a single sign-on and management portal. This approach is especially important as the application-centric PaaS layer becomes increasingly vital to the enterprise.

Appsecute itself is designed to grant app owners and developers access to “monitoring, alerting, escalation, access control and audit tools that work across all of an organization’s cloud platforms,” according to the press release. The end goal is to reduce cloud chaos in an organization while also enabling developers to put together applications with existing services.

The Appsecute Portal itself is browser-based, but Appsecute co-founder Mark Cox notes that there’s also a native Windows tool (Mac version coming soon, reportedly) that sits in the system tray until it’s needed for tasks like application upload, log viewing, or database connection – things that aren’t so easy in the browser.

Going with VMware Cloud Foundry was probably a wise choice for a starting point. Cloud Foundry has a strong community even across infrastructure providers, and is the backbone of several public PaaS providers, including AppFog, Activestate Stackato and Tier3 Iron Foundry. And Appsecute promises that support for other PaaS providers is coming down the line.

Putting aside Appsecute’s technology – SiliconANGLE’s own John Furrier has been fiddling with it and finds it quite easy to use, I do know – it’s an important tool from a philosophical standpoint, too.

VMware’s Cloud Foundry team has long been calling for a multi-cloud future. As Amazon Web Services proves and proves again with its wide-scale outages, any given public cloud provider is prone to failure at almost any moment. But deploying across a bunch of them is the closest thing to a guarantee of resiliency you’ll ever get. And it’s obvious that Appsecute sees itself as the management tool that facilitates this model.
