DreamWorks Animation SKG has integrated HP Cloud Services with Panzura’s Global Cloud Storage System for use in its project collaboration and file sharing network. Using the system, three DreamWorks Animation studio production teams can collaborate and tap into the cloud cloud applications and data storage that HP and Panzura offer.
DreamWorks already utilizes HP IBRIX Storage for on-premise file storage and will make use of the cloud storage as a supplementary tool for collaboration. DreamWorks production teams at the company’s studios in Glendale and Redwood City, California, as well as a production team Bangalore, India can now share content and data over HP’s cloud network.
Derek Chan, head of Technology Global Operations at DreamWorks Animation said that the combination of HP Cloud Services and Panzura Global Cloud Storage System will afford the production company with “massively scalable low-cost tier of storage” that provides data protection without the need for traditional recovery options, such as tape backup.
Panzura’s Global Cloud Storage functions much like a NAS storage device. The operating system features military-grade encryption, performance scaling, and global deduplication. The global file system is capable of scaling over multiple locations and users. Each Panzura Cloud Storage Controller sees the same file system no matter where it is located in the world.
HP Cloud Services have frequented the news lately, including recently with the news of its Cloud Object Storage and Cloud Content Delivery Network coming out of beta. HP has clearly invested a great deal in the cloud and is likely betting on deals such as this DreamWorks one to help make the investment worthwhile.
