Rovio Supports Freddie For A Day Campaign

Today, September 5th, is rock legend Freddie Mercury’s birthday.  And to commemorate this day, Rovio transformed him into an honorary Angry Birds character.  This move is in support for the annual Freddie for a Day campaign, which celebrates the life of the late frontman for the band Queen while also serving as a fundraiser for the HIV/AIDS charity known as Mercury Phoenix Trust. See the Mercury inspired Angry Birds video featuring Queen’s “Bicycle Race” below.

Speaking of Angry Birds, Rovio announced the Angry Birds spin-off, Bad Piggies, yesterday wherein players will get to experience playing from the pigs’ point-of-view.  A teaser video was posted about the game but it doesn’t really let you know what the game is all about.  Guess we’ll just have to wait until later this month to find out more about the game.

Bad Piggies is a spin off for sure, but it isn’t Rovio’s second game after Angry Birds.  In July, they released Amazing Alex, a brain-training game that requires players to arrange objects on the screen to create a chain reaction in which each piece of the puzzle has an effect on another until the goal is achieved.  Though the game is fun and educational, it hasn’t been faring as well as the Angry Birds franchise.

Since Bad Piggies lifted from Angry Birds, maybe the game would be more successful than Amazing Alex.

In other Angry Birds update, they’ll be exploiting the popularity of the Curiosity rover that landed in Mars coming this fall.  They’ll be releasing a new franchise called Angry Birds Space: Red Planet.  Also, have you met the new addition to their family?  The Pink Bird – a cute little bird that blows bubbles to trick the nasty pigs that want to steal and eat their eggs.  She may be cute and adorable but she’s one cunning chick.
