Seesmic’s the Latest Buy in Social Enterprise Gold Rush

HootSuite, the social media management system for brands, announced that they’ve acquired competitor Seesmic, a suite of freeware web, mobile, and desktop applications which allow users to simultaneously manage accounts for multiple social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter.

As part of the acquisition, HootSuite CEO Ryan Holmes and Seesmic Founder Loïc Le Meur agreed that HootSuite will continue to support Seesmic, while transitioning business users to HootSuite’s larger social media management toolset.  Also, Seesmic users are encouraged to explore new tools, apps and features available at Twitter.

“I have always had a lot of respect for Seesmic’s CEO, Loïc Le Meur and the role Seesmic has played in advancing social business.” said Holmes. “We are thrilled to welcome Seesmic’s users into the HootSuite family.”

The acquisition is a logical step for the future of both companies, since they are quite similar.  The acquisition of Seesmic is another milestone in HootSuite’s recent hyper-growth.  HootSuite focuses on the needs of power users, and the acquisition of Seesmic’s business and enterprise customers will further reinforce HootSuite’s position in the upper left quadrant of the  Twitter Partner graph.

“We’ve always been big fans of Ryan Holmes and the HootSuite team, since the days we were all pioneering the Social Media landscape. We’re thrilled today to announce that Seesmic is joining HootSuite, and we’re excited for our users: they are becoming part of the HootSuite family, and they will be able to continue to build their brand and social business,” said Le Meur.

Details of the acquisition haven’t been disclosed but one thing’s for sure, this isn’t a talent buy.  HootSuite and Seesmic are almost the same so the acquisition is because of Seesmic’s user base.  According to some, Seesmic is stagnating, so before everyone on Seesmic vanishes, HootSuite grabbed the opportunity to reel those people in with the acquisition.
