EMC and Alpine Data Labs Unveil In-Database Predictive Analytics

EMC logoEMC has joined forces with Alpine Data Labs to harness the power of EMC Greenplum with Alpine’s web-based predictive analytics software. The new agreement will also see the two companies sign on for a formal reseller relationship.

EMC is calling the technology the first “in-database” solution for big data predictive analytics. The new application will give a wide range of teams the ability to glean useful analytic data, save time, and deploy the “in a box” solution more easily. The companies assert that all of this will be possible with the combined effort of EMC Greenplum and Alpine analytics.

Alpine and EMC describe the interface for the new technology as “easy-to-use” and believe anyone on a team should be able to easily work with it and access the in-database analytics. Rather than waiting weeks to deploy analytics workflows, users of the Greenplum Unified Analytics Platform (UAP) can make use of the one-click model deployment and rapid and iterative approach to data modeling.

For Greenplum president Bill Cook, this means that customers can start to view traditional business intelligence as something from their evolutionary past. “EMC is committed to exposing the value of in-database analytics, and Alpine Data Labs is a natural partner for us in helping our customers move beyond traditional business intelligence to leverage their Big Data to achieve better business results faster. Alpine has taken all the power and scalability of Greenplum solutions, applied it to the world of predictive analytics on big data, and made it available via a simple web-based application,” Cook said.

The reseller agreement between the two companies dictates that EMC will resell Alpine Data Labs’ product suite, which includes Alpine Illuminator and Alpine Miner. Both applications will include integration with EMC Greenplum Database, EMC Greenplum HD, EMC Greenplum Data Computing Appliance (DCA), and EMC Greenplum Chrous.

EMC acquired Greenplum in 2010 with the goal of providing customers of its big data technology with self-service analytics. Alpine Data Labs specializes in predictive analytics, adding another layer of functionality to EMC’s portfolio.
