In an age where people continue to share more of their lives online through photos they post on Facebook, one’s privacy vulnerability increases. As a consequence, they tend to lose control on where the photos end up.
To answer this issue, McAfee recently demoed the Social Protection App that will halt poachers from stealing someone else’s photo in the latest episode of Intel Developer Forum 2012 in San Francisco.
Whether through copy paste or print screen, this soon-to-be released app and browser plug-in for Facebook will grant users to secure their photos in the social networking site. In essence, while you are engaging with real and virtual friends in Facebook, you will be safeguarded and photos will not be reproduced and spilled all throughout the web without your permission—pretty much how a condom works.
The three-day event concluded today was packed of various innovation stops for Intel. Speakers discussed myriad ways where Intel platforms are trying to make technology more integral whilst being invisible part of daily life of users. But as the event progresses, it also became clear that the company is touching on the benefits of the over-hyped HTML5, which was oddly regarded by Zuckerberg as “biggest strategic mistake” they have ever made when trying to penetrate the mobile space. Odd as it may seem, the keynotes made it obvious that Intel is aggressively pushing forward with their transparent computing with focus on developing HTML5 web applications. Recent solutions presented by McAfee to Facebook were seen as flawed ideas.
Renee James, senior vice president and general manager of Intel’s Software Services Group said,
“With transparent computing, software developers no longer must choose one environment over another in order to maintain profitability and continue to innovate. Consumers and businesses are challenged with the multitude of wonderful, yet incompatible devices and environments available today. It’s not about just mobility, the cloud or the PC. What really matters is when all of these elements come together in a compelling and transparent cross-platform user experience that spans environments and hardware architectures. Developers who embrace this reality are the ones who will remain relevant.”
McAfee Social Protection app is a highlight to Intel’s commitment to safekeeping community’s data and online identities. They are also turning wild imaginations into possibility as Intel tries to develop password-free online banking, social networking and emails. Passwords will be replaced by a technology that recognizes a wave of a hand. McAfee also released their annual report on who is the most dangerous celebrity in terms of having malicious websites trying to steal personal information. This year’s pick is Emma Watson, an actress famed for her role in Harry Potter series.
To avoid theft of devices, McAfee also launched a new version of Anti-theft security software to search for location and remotely lock the device whenever it’s stolen or lost. The technology carries features like Lockdown Mode, Stealth Mode and Vacation and Repair modes.
“Intel Anti-Theft Technology is an example of a feature built into the silicon, that when coupled with software and services, better protects the things consumers care most about – identity, data and devices – for a more worry-free computing experience and greater peace of mind right from the start,” Intel PC Client Services general manager GeorgeThangadurai said.
