Sanbolic Adds AWS after Rackspace Update for Extended SQL Support

It seems Amazon Web Services continues to be an important foundation for a growing ecosystem in the SQL space, with Sanbolic making the latest addition to AWS’s Partner Network.  The goal is to make its AppCluster Microsoft SQL Server platform available to large organizations leveraging the IaaS.

AppCluster, which was made available on Rackspace Cloud shortly before this update, is a database solution that aims to simplify sprawl and management complexity in MS SQL environments by automating many processes that would otherwise be handled manually.

“From a technical standpoint, the new Sanbolic AppCluster SQL Server platform available via Amazon Web Services will provide AWS customers with the ability to simplify management and increase availability, while ensuring lighting fast failover and load balancing across physical and virtual SQL Servers,” said Sanbolic founding CEO Momchil Michailov.  “From a business benefits viewpoint, customers can now reallocate their time and expertise to activities that speed time-to-market, increase competitive advantage and directly contribute to the bottom-line.”

Sanbolic is appealing to the AWS enterprise crowd with its database platform, underscoring a similar agenda by Amazon itself.  The company rolled out a couple of big updates to its service suite recently that strengthen what it has to offer to enterprises.

Last month Glacier was added to the Amazon Web Services roster: Glacier is a low-cost service meant specifically to store users’ cold data – rarely accessed info that enterprises store on tape and tuck away. The AWS service offers better cost-efficiency and more accessibility than traditional storage, but there are a number of restrictions put in place that limit usage in order to prevent abuse.

The launch of Glacier was followed up by a relatively minor, yet significant addition to AWS. A new tagging system was introduced in order to make it easier for companies to keep track of what and how much resources each department or team is using.
