EMC Extends Syncplicity to iOS with SlideShark

Storage vendor EMC is adding support for Brainshark’s mobile presentation app to Syncplicity, its cloud-based enterprise file-sharing and collaboration solution.  The integration is targeting the sales and marketing teams that need their PowerPoint files to be no more than a few taps away while they’re out on the field.

Syncplicity and SlideShark supplement each other rather nicely. All the presentations are stored on EMC’s cloud service, which allows for real-time updating, while delivering “cloud-to-cloud connectivity” that minimizes download times. It also enables remote data wipe and presentation tracking, functionality that is plugged directly into SlideShark. The app runs as the local client on the user’s iPhone or iPad and provides them with native access to Syncplicity, as well as features such as the ability to connect to TVs and projectors.

The two solutions can be deployed in conjunction with EMC Documentum to streamline the process of content authorization for clients in heavily-regulated industries. These include healthcare providers, financial services providers and utilities.

“Skyrocketing mobile usage, easy access to cloud-based files, and SlideShark’s mobile presentation capabilities are a game-changing combination – one that’s empowering sales teams and business executives alike to reimagine the business meeting.” Joe Gustafson, the CEO of Brainshark, wrote in a prepared statement. Together with Syncplicity, we’re pleased to provide mobile professionals with the ability to use their iOS devices to instantly access content in the cloud, prepare for meetings, and dynamically present and share important information.”

Cloud file management is huge, and not just in the enterprise. The wind is blowing from the direction of the consumer space, where cloud lockers have become a full-blown phenomenon. Dozens of vendors are competing over market share, and SugarSync is planning to come out on top.

This morning the company rolled out a major overhaul to its service, which is now being touted as SugarSync 2.0. The majors changes include a new layout and a Drive folder that centralizes file management across multiple devices.
