HTML5 is built to be the common language on the web, irrespective of the OS or the device that displays it. Apps created in HTML5 are readily available for use across multiple environments and devices, both online and on the devices themselves.

Google has taken a huge step forward in developing the Chrome operating system of the future. It has been has been pioneering the use of HTML5 for web application development to bridge the gap between cloud-based apps and desktop-packaged software.

Joining Kristin Feledy in this morning’s NewsDesk is Simon St. Laurent, Senior Editor, O’Reilly Media, Inc. to give his Breaking Analysis on future of HTML5 and JavaScript.

According to Laurent, Google is making HTML5 as a standard interface on the Web and not just to create basic documents and applications. The concept of making web-based applications is now not limited to desktop. Google has showcased seamless integration of application across desktop, mobile, tablets and other devices during the recently concluded Google I/O 2013. Developers are creating one-time application that can be run on phone, desktop browser, tablets and other computing devices.

Laurent then commented on the future of JavaScript, saying, “The scripting language can be used on any browser and because of its structured content, presentation and behavior; JavaScript will take large chuck of web programming. It is not just that JavaScript is used in Web infrastructure, it is now more frequently used to optimize live environment.”

The rise of JavaScript in particular has led to approaches where JavaScript APIs can be used to balance flexibility with usability of the Web. Taking on the future of programming languages, Simon said framework based coding, JQuery, and Polymer focused JavaScript modules approaches are the path forward for developers.
