Gamiel Gran Says Mobility is Once in a Lifetime Trend

SiliconAngle’s Jeff Frick visited Appcelerator’s Mountain View headquarters last week to bring you the full highlights from the company’s enterprise launch event. He covered the news and interviewed some of the executives who helped cement the company’s position as mobile development powerhouse, including vice president of business development Gamiel Gran.

Gran joined Appcelerator from Sierra Ventures, where he tracked new technologies and emerging verticals for five years. In the interview he tells Frick that he decided to switch employers because mobility is a “once in a lifetime trend” that is poised to disrupt the enterprise application stack, and he wanted to get in on the action.

Gran explains that the CIO mindset has changed over the course of the last few years. Today chief information officers are focusing less on maintaining their legacy infrastructure and more on innovation, a massive shift matched in scope only by the transitions that the traditional enterprise went through in the early days of the Internet. The developer community is adopting a mobile-first approach, he adds, and the legacy of the browser wars has been taken up by the device wars as a result.

The executive says that mobile development is not about making the most out of a smaller display: it’s about leveraging data and functionality to realize productivity gains that were not attainable in the past. He highlights how the rise of connected devices has provided enterprises with a golden opportunity to exploit Big Data, social collaboration and cloud infrastructure to deliver new benefits for end-users.

Check out the video below for more of Gran’s insights into the mobile market and the ever-changing enterprise landscape.
