Midokura Announces Integration with Apache CloudStack

Network virtualization startup Midokura has announced integration of its flagship MidoNet technology with Apache CloudStack, available immediately. Dell Adds Data Encryption, Advanced Authentication, Malware Protection to Commercial PCs

Dell has announced the addition of comprehensive encryption, advanced authentication, and leading-edge malware prevention to its Dell Data Protection (DDP) suite for its commercial PCs, and says this makes them the best protected PC lines in the industry. DDP includes Microsoft Windows 8 support and auto-deployment and provisioning of users when purchased factory-installed on Dell Precision workstations, OptiPlex desktops, and Latitude laptops and tablets. Dell also announced DDP|Protected Workspace, a sophisticated tool powered by Invincea to protect employees and their data from the latest malware attacks in real time. More

 

ADVA Optical Networking, Ciena, Guavus, and Versa Networks Join OpenDaylight

ADVA Optical Networking, Ciena, Gauvus, and Versa Networks have joined the OpenDaylight Project, which is developing an open source SDN. With the new companies, the project now has 27 members. So far OpenDaylight has delivered the base controller architecture just 60 days after its launch and is now building the merged controller and a virtual tenant network (VTN) application. More

 

CineTrailer Migrates to Azure from AWS

CineTrailer, a pan-European app developed by Italian digital media agency DDM, has migrated its back-end technology to Windows Azure from AWS. It has also optimized a version of its app for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Since migrating to Azure in 2012, the CineTrailer app has been downloaded more than 2.5 million times and is available in 11 countries and nine languages throughout Europe. More

 

Emerson College Buys Coraid Ethernet Storage for its VMware Environment

Emerson College has chosen Coraid EtherDrive SRX storage arrays to provide shared storage for its VMware virtualized server environment. The arrays, from Ethernet storage solution provider Coraid, will replace an aging, expensive-to-maintain FC SAN. Andrew Feland, director of information technology at Emerson, and Frankie Frain, its manager of networks and systems, chose Coraid after looking at several options for a flexible, scale-out system that would meet different performance requirements while decreasing support costs in a shared, virtualized environment. Cisco to Develop ICT Master Plan for Kazan Smart City Project

Cisco and the Development Corporation of the Republic of Tatarstan JSC have signed a memorandum of understanding envisaging the development of an ICT master plan for the Kazan Smart City. The main purpose of the initiative is to build a smart, socially attractive modern city that will stimulate the economic development of the region. The agreement grew out of a meeting between Republic of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Cisco VP Andy Macdonald at the third Annual Investment Meeting. More

Cisco has announced its intent to acquire privately held Composite Software Inc., a developer of data virtualization software and services headquartered in San Mateo, Calif. Composite provides software connecting many types of data across the network, making it all to appear to be in a single location. it integrates traditional and new data sources, including cloud and big data, into a simplified, consolidated view.
