Introducing PuPHPet:The GUI Configurator for Vagrant and Puppet

Recently, a new GUI-based generator for Vagrant/Puppet environments was launched, named as Puphpet. It is a simple, easy to use web app that targets PHP developers and the classic LAMP stack. While PuPHPet is a Vagrant automation tool, it uses Puppet as the provisioning backend. Those who are not much familiar with both these names, Vagrant helps automate the creation and destruction of virtual machines, while Puppet is a configuration management tool particularly useful in Enterprise environments and cloud-computing platforms.

PuPHPet provides an interface for choosing the type of virtual machine & configuring the initial state of the Operating System so you can get to work as soon as possible, saving a lot of time. And yes, it is an open-source app, developed by Juan Treminio.
Here is something about Puphpet on GitHub:

“The main goal of PuPHPet is to eventually replace tools such as XAMPP, WAMPP, MAMPP and other all-in-one servers that create development environments on your main operating system.

Eventually PuPHPet will be good enough to help create production-ready servers!”

The best aspect of Puphpet is that you don’t need to learn the ins and outs of Vagrant or Puppet to build your own working VM to your specific needs. You can simply define things like custom virtual hosts, what version of PHP to install, set up some MySQL databases, etc, all without having to touch a manifest.

To run PuPHPet-generated manifests, all you need is to install Vagrant version 1.2.0 or greater. Vagrant will run on Windows, OS X and Linux.
