New iPads, Mavericks and Mac Pro to Launch on October 22

Apple is all set for another round of product launches later this month, and consumers are likely to see new iPads and Macs this time around.

Previous reports stated that Apple would be holding an press event on the 15th of October, but AllThingsD’s sources, who claim to be familiar of the Cupertino company’s plans, stated that the invite-only event is all set for the 22nd of October.

According to the sources, Apple will be launching its 5th generation iPad – complete with a new 64-bit A7 chip and an iPad mini with Retina Display that will likely have the same chipset.  No news yet as to whether the new iPads will have Touch ID like the iPhone 5s, but there have been rumors that they will.

For the 5th gen iPad, this will be slimmer and lighter, and will look a lot like the old iPad mini.  It measures 239.20mm in height, 169.50mm in width, a depth of 7.2mm, and the back panel alone weighs 92 grams.

Other changes in the new iPad we previously told you about on SiliconANGLE include two buttons for volume control, speakers that are located at the bottom center of the device, an an extra mic hole at the top, a logo at the back which now has a mirror effect like the iPad mini, and finally, the edges are rounder, instead of tapering off, which will make it more comfortable to hold when used for longer periods.

Aside from the new iPad, AllThingsD’s sources also claimed that a new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks will also be unveiled at the event.

The Mac Pro is set for a massive facelift as it will sport a new ‘cylindrical’ design.  The specs for the machine include dual GPUs, PCI Express-based flash storage, a new-generation Intel Xeon E5 chipset that offers up to 12 cores of processing power, up to 40GB/s of PCI Express gen 3 bandwidth, and 256-bit-wide floating-point instructions. Apple also boasts of ultrafast memory, support for 4K video, and a four-channel DDR3 memory controller running at 1866MHz. Another nice new feature is the unified thermal core, made possible thanks to a fan with backward-curved impeller blades that runs at fewer revolutions per minute, drawing air inside the machine more efficiently as it spins, creating considerably less noise. Finally, connectivity looks to be top-notch, with built-in Thunderbolt 2, USB 3, Gigabit Ethernet, and HDMI 1.4 ports, 802.11ac WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.0.

And as for the OS X Mavericks, Cnet stated that it will recieve a bug fix update as soon as it gets released.  But that doesn’t necessarily mean that Mavericks will be completely bug free –  as we have seen recently with iOS 7 and the Apple TV, Apple’s updates often lead to new problems for users. In other words, you might want to wait a while before taking the plunge yourself – don’t say we didn’t warn you!
