Develop web and mobile apps With IE 11 and get bounties, surprises
Internet Explorer 11 is here. With the release of Windows 8.1, Microsoft has introduced IE 11 both as standard and touch based web browser. After IE version 6.0, Microsoft has begun advancing to keep pace with stiff competition from Google Chrome and Firefox.
Microsoft said IE 11 is fastest yet in the company’s browser history–9% faster than IE10 and nearly 30% faster than the nearest competitive browser. IE11 team aims to set a new standard for speed and performance, and Microsoft is now exploring developers community to keep pace with this innovation.
To that end, the Redmond is trying to bring more developers on board, so the company has launched a new challenge specifically designed to help them optimize their websites. The company announces, “the Internet Explorer team just released new web performance tools to modern.IE and is celebrating by issuing a fun challenge to web developers: Improve your site’s performance by at least 11% and Internet Explorer will send you some 11 goodness.”
The action is part of the Modern.ie website, which the company launched earlier this year. The Modern.ie is used to test websites in Internet Explorer and offers free virtual machines for Mac, Linux and Windows.
As part of “The 11% for IE11 challenge”, Microsoft encourages developers to boost the performance of loading web pages at least 11 percent and get more rewards from Microsoft, including 11 copies of Parallels Desktop Virtualization, 11 pizzas for the team and 11 one-year subscriptions of BrowserStack testing. The prizes are also extended to Mac developers and Microsoft is also announcing that it will be knocking 25% off the price of Parallels 9 Desktop for Mac. But the offer is limited to 1,000 copies.
Microsoft said a number of favorite sites and developers have built modern web experiences including Hover.ie, Swish.com and GlacierWorks: Everest to increase performance.
“We recently tried the new tools with our partners at swish.com–a responsively designed modern site. They were able to improve their page load performance by 40% with some simple steps. We’ve published a complete tear-down on modern.IE so you can try these techniques for yourself,” said the company’s Justin Garrett.
The company said use new F12 Developer Tools in Internet Explorer 11 to help refine and test performance of your website then show us the results. Also developers can use any performance tool on the web such as new performance analysis tools in moderno.IE or webpagetest.org or PageSpeed Insights to create rich web experience. The new F12 developer tool include UI responsiveness and memory profiling, Live DOM explorer and CSS inspection tools to explore how dynamic content is affecting layout or styles and JavaScript debugging to help you build fast and fluid Web apps.
Internet Explorer 11 is part of Windows 8.1, but Microsoft also plans to make it available to users of Windows 7 as an optional download sometime this year.
