Hewlett-Packard and Salesforce are going after the enterprise in a joint push to make cloud services operationally viable for mission-critical workloads that require high level security and transparency.
The pair are rolling out a solution called Salesforce Superpod, a dedicated instance in the Salesforce multi-tenant cloud that runs on converged infrastructure supplied by HP. The offering is aimed at the “world’s largest enterprises,” companies that have found themselves at the forefront of cloud adoption in the wake of major shifts in end-user needs and customer expectations.
“The salesforce.com and HP partnership is a breakthrough in cloud computing,” said Marc Benioff, the chairman and CEO of Salesforce. “The Salesforce Superpod will allow individual customers to have a dedicated instance in the Salesforce multi-tenant cloud, powered by HP’s technology and fully managed within salesforce.com’s world-class data centers.”
The Superpod made its debut at Salesforce’s landmark Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, where Benioff revealed his company’s bold vision for the Internet of Things. The CRM titan wants enterprises to make sensors and mobile devices a part of their IT infrastructure using its new Salesforce1 platform, a cloud-based integration solution that harnesses the power of open APIs. It is designed to help developers build and monetize next generation applications that connect to other applications and use data from off-premise information sources. The service features “10 times as many APIs” than before, according to the firm, plus components for building interfaces and a cutting edge mobile admin tool.
Hours after unveiling its latest offering, Salesforce surprised Wall Street with third quarter revenue of $1.08 billion, 36 percent more than a year ago and slightly ahead of the consensus estimate. That makes it the first enterprise cloud vendor to deliver a $1 billion quarter.
