SAP democratizes predictive analytics with KXEN tech

SAP’s latest acquisition is already starting to pay dividends. The business intelligence giant on Monday introduced InfiniteInsight, a Big Data solution that fuses its Predictive Analytics solution with modeling software from KXEN, the San Francisco-based startup it picked up in September.

Research firm Loudhouse estimates that 78 percent of decision makers believe predictive analytics will become a priority for their organizations in the next five years, but only a third are leveraging the technology today. SAP is trying to bridge this gap by consumerizing data science, packaging the needed know-how in such a way that enables individuals without statistical savvy to extract insights in near real time.

Infinite includes an Explorer component with pre-built data models, a Modeler that lets users develop their own algorithms, and a Scorer feature that makes it easier to run those algorithms on HANA and other databases. These capabilities are complemented by Factory, an automation tool that can be used to schedule model refreshes across multiple applications.

Eldorado, the largest consumer electronics retailer in Russia, is using the software to analyze transactional data stored in its SAP 360 Customer deployment.

“As data rapidly expands, more and more companies are finding competitive advantage by combining advanced analytics and business intelligence to capture, analyze and predict trends,” said Shekhar Iyer, the head of SAP’s Business Intelligence and Predictive Analytics division. ” SAP InfiniteInsight, along with our existing advanced analytics capabilities, powered by SAP HANA, provides a platform for analyzing business in real time and predictive insight across the enterprise by integrating predictive insight into applications, processes and decision-making.”

Last week, a German startup called Trufa raised $4.5 million from Accel Partners to establish a global presence and accelerate product development. Founded by former SAP executives Paul Wahl and Alex Ott, the firm builds predictive analytics applications for tablet devices.
