Spotify literally rocks the world : New, free features for iPhone + Android

Spotify made a few important announcements this morning that would make any audiophile drool.

First off, Spotify can now be accessed on mobile devices for FREE.  This means you can now listen to millions of songs, from your own playlist, playlists of people you follow, or just look for your favorite artist or type of genre you want to discover new songs.

“Today we’re giving people the best free music experience in the history of the smartphone and the tablet,” said Daniel Ek, CEO & Founder at Spotify, during the announcement in New York. “Whether you’re going to the gym, or having a party with friends. Just sit back and let Spotify serve you great music for every moment of your life.”

New Features

  • Worldwide

So what does the new and improved Spotify has to offer?  It is now available in 20 new markets, making the service accessible in 55 countries.

Spotify is now in Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Denmark, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UK, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.

That brings Spotify’s active user base to over 24 million, with more than six million paying subscribers.

  • Shuffle Play

Fortunate audiophiles from these countries can listen to all the playlists they’ve created and playlists from the people they follow, discover new music, save them, listen in shuffle, and even share to their followers or friends.

If you want to listen to just one artist, you can also do that without being bugged by recommendations of similar artists.  Just hit shuffle and be ready to spend hours just listening to the tunes of your favorite artist.

  • Mood Music

Spotify also knows how music psychs people up to get moving.  So to help you get pumped up, Spotify now offers playlists for specific moments or moods.

Spotify is now available in three versions: mobile which is free but with limited features, desktop which is also free but allows you to play any song on-demand, and the premium version which has no ads, higher quality of music, and offline music enjoyment.

Spotify apps is available on the App Store and Google Play.

Led Zeppelin

For the first time ever, Led Zeppelin’s music will be available for streaming on Spotify.  Starting December 11, the first two albums of the legendary band, Led Zeppelin (1969) and Led Zeppelin II (1969), will be available for fans all over the world.  More of their albums will be released and Spotify announced that by December 15, all of Led Zeppelin’s albums will be available for streaming.
