30 years of the Apple Mac
If by any chance you visited Apple’s page today, you’d have probably noticed it’s looking quite different . That’s because Apple is celebrating the 30th birthday of the Mac.
It all started in 1984 when Apple introduced the Macintosh, it’s first personal computer. Looking at it now, kids would probably have a confused look on their faces if you showed one to them, because it looks nothing like the Macs of today. And that’s good, because it shows how Apple much has progressed in the last 30 years.
“It was designed to be so easy to use that people could actually use it.
“And it came with a promise – that the power of technology taken from a few and put in the hands if everyone, could change the world,” Apple wrote on its page.
Apple added that the promise has been upheld, and Macs are being used by people for different purposes, and asks visitors to imagine what the company might accomplish in the next 30 years.
Aside from changing its page, the Cupertino giant has also prepared a video, a timeline and even a poll to get to know more about its Mac users.
The video showed the evolution of the Mac, and how people first perceived it and how it has been used to change the world.
The timeline, is a broader version of the video, and it shows how each version of Mac was used by different people, coming from different professions, to revolutionize the world. Each item on the timeline can be expanded to give you more information about the people, their work, and how Mac has changed things for them or for the world.
If you click on 2008, you’ll read how Dr. Pardis Sabeti developed a tool on her Mac that allowed for the determination that certain genes were the result of natural selection. She took her Mac to Africa, allowing her to directly work in the field, which led to the discovery of new methods on how to treat and cure diseases such as malaria. Her efforts have improved the lives of thousands of people in Nigeria.
As for the poll, it asks visitors what their first Mac was. If you participate in the poll, you’ll be shown icons of all the Macs that ever existed, then you will be asked what you used it for, and then where you’re from. It will then thank you for the years that you have been part of Mac family. At the time of this writing, the poll result showed that the Macintosh 512Ke, which was released in 1986, is the most popular Mac at 4.8 percent. It also notes that most Macs are used for Education/Teaching.
