Consistent user experience and security are the two top priorities in the mobile enterprise, and Dell is going for both. The vendor recently announced an expanded partnership with cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) firm NetSuite to provide consulting, implementation and support services to customers migrating from on-premise deployments.
“The collaboration with NetSuite can help customers deploy a world-class cloud ERP solution that is proven to support agile business processes,” noted Suresh Vaswan, the head of Dell’s services business. “It strengthens Dell’s commitment to provide customers with pre-configured industry solutions, accelerators, and real-time insights to help fast-track their cloud transformation.”
The agreement will provide a welcome boost for Dell, which is shifting its focus from consumer tech to high-margin IT services and enterprise software. On the latter front, the vendor this week introduced a new release of the SonicWALL secure mobile access solution that combines the latest versions of its application virtualization client and virtual private network (VPN) solutions.
Dell says that the platforms lets IT organizations enforce security policies across all devices, managed as well as and unmanaged, and provides “context-aware authentication” by automatically checking for root status, certificate status and OS versions before granting file access. SonicWALL also gives admins control over whether documents viewed can be opened in third party apps, copied to the clipboard, printed, or even cached. The goal, the company says, is to allow for complete separation of personal and business data while preserving user experience.
Other notable features include a policy-enforced SSL-based VPN capability, automatic “locking” of data in the event authorization is revoked, and a centralized access management console that makes it possible to apply a single ruleset for all web resources and file shares. That’s a big plus for large organizations with a lot of disparate systems.
