eMeter, based out of San Mateo, California, makes software to help manage smart meter and smart grid technologies. This enables gas, electric, and water utilities to better serve their customer base by helping to manage the data generated by the companies’ meters, turning it into usable data.
Recently, eMeter began utilizing data storage solutions offered by Nimble. Senior System Engineer at eMeter Bryan Bond spoke with John Furrier and David Floyer of theCUBE at the Nimble Adaptive Flash Launch event and discussed the impressive efforts of Nimble so far.
Bond explained that the primary benefits from using Nimble’s flash storage solution are space-savings and cost-reductions. Other improvements Nimble brought into the equation include ease of management and availability.
What has kept eMeter with Nimble, according to Bond, has been “the fact that they have continued to evolve the product. That they have continued to improve the features they have while keeping that price point, performance point, and capacity point all within a good balance that fits across our environment.”
Floyer asked about the organization of Bond’s team at eMeter. Bond stated that everybody on his team filled a cross-functional role and could do everything across the board. Nimble allows his team to do everything they need to do with a single tool. Basically, eMeter can operate 24 hours a day and always have somebody on staff who can handle any task. Furthermore, the Nimble storage solution has allowed Bond and others working at eMeter to move past the issue of bottlenecks.
“Performance is not ever a part of the equation anymore for me. It’s done. It’s gone,” Bond said.
Nimble has allowed eMeter to deliver systems on a daily basis, whereas in the past processes took days. Even reconfiguring storage to add capacity takes virtually no time and is very easy to accomplish. Nimble allows eMeter to do its job quickly and easily, which in the end is good for business.
