

Zimbra, Inc. said today that it has acquired Mezeo Software, Inc., a provider of on-premise and cloud-based file sharing and storage. Zimbra intends to augment its open source collaboration suite with Mezeo’s file syncing technology, while also benefiting from Mezeo’s file security and storage efficiency patents.
Mezeo’s on-premise file sharing and syncing includes security features that some online storage and file sharing services may not provide. The technology is also designed to integrated with a variety of popular cloud and on-premise platforms, which installation time.
Zimbra currently licenses its collaboration software under its own version of public open source licensing and the GNU General Public License version 2 for its server code. Customers may download the free community edition or purchasing standard licensing.
Zimbra’s collaboration suite combined with Mezeo’s sharing and syncing technology will allow mobile professionals to securely access and share their organization’s information, said Olivier Thierry, chief marketing officer at Zimbra. “Mezeo provides Zimbra users with a familiar file sharing and collaboration experience without compromising security or compliance,” he said. “Mezeo’s advanced file sharing security features integrate with identity management systems and use SSL encryption both in flight and at rest.”
Mezeo’s products and services will continue to be available under the Zimbra brand and Mezeo’s employees will join the Zimbra team. Zimbra itself has changed hands more than once. Yahoo! acquired Zimbra in 2007 and then sold it to VMware in 2010. In 2013, Telligent Systems acquired Zimbra and renamed the combined company Zimbra, Inc.
