HealthTap Prime

HealthTap Inc., an interactive health company, unveiled its next generation digital health service today, redefining how people connect with doctors.

HeathTap Prime is an end-to-end virtual care solution that’s available anytime via smartphone, tablet or wearable smartwatch. The service offers immediate access to physicians who will give expert medical advice.  HealthTap can even be used to get prescription medications delivered at home or for pharmacy pick up.

The service also features the Health Graph, enabling users to monitor health data. HealthTap Prime also delivers answers, news, and tips from doctors based on your health data.

Mobile access to doctors may be convenient, but comes at a price. HealthTap Prime’s introductory price of $99/month provides access 24/7 to live, Virtual Consults with doctors via HD video, audio, and chat. The app is available for iOS and Android.

Play-tag

Millions of dogs are stolen and lost every year and the number one reason as to why these dogs aren’t returned to their rightful owners is because of the lack of adequate identification. Maggie Owsley aims to solve this problem with Play-tag Inc., a Bluetooth Low Energy-enabled device that lets you keep track of your furry pal using your mobile phone.

Play-tag allows you to set boundaries as to how far your dog can explore off-leash before you and your assigned contacts are alerted that it has exited its approved radius.  Incase the owner doesn’t get to the dog fast enough, Play-tag activates a highly visible LED paw print so people can easily see your missing pet.  The Play-tag app also allows you to store your pet’s information such as its medical history, behavioral notes, as well as the owner’s contact information so that lost pets can be returned.

Play-tags are available for preorder for $49.99, and will ship by Fall 2014.

Kurbo Health

According to the Center for Disease Control, childhood obesity has more than doubled in the past 30 years, with 18 percent of children aged 6-12 years old suffering from related issues.

Getting kids to live healthier lifestyles is no easy task, especially when they are accustomed to a sedentary lifestyle and presented with unhealthy snacks on a daily basis. Kurbo Health aims to change this by making it easy for kids to take an active approach when it comes to their health.  Because of its fresh approach to battle childhood obesity, the company raised $5.8 million is a Series A funding round led by Signia Venture Partners, Data Collective, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Promus Ventures, with the participation of Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube, and Greg Badros, former VP Engineering and Product at Facebook.

Kurbo Health is a paid service directed at kids.  It utilizes mobile technology to create fun and engaging programs to help kids and teens ages 8-18 eat healthier and lose weight. It consists of three parts: a mobile app complete with a food tracker, games, progress screens and Krunch challenges; virtual feedback and suggestions based on the foods tracked; and expert coaching via phone, video and text to give participants encouragement and recommendations.

Kurbo Health also includes the whole family in tracking nutrition and physical activities to help kids and teens stay on track.

Kurbo Health is free for two weeks, and the program costs $75 a month or $200 for three months.
