A modular TV that tracks your health
This week’s Smart Health roundup features a healthy round of funding for iHealth Lab, a television that does more than entertain you, and a fresh effort to help people with food allergies better enjoy their dining experiences.

iHealth Lab’s healthy round of funding
iHealth Lab Inc. has secured a healthy amount of funding from Xiaomi Ventures, the venture capital arm of one of China’s largest smartphone maker, Xiaomi Inc. iHealth Lab raised $25 million from Xiaomi Ventures and will be used to expand its global reach, accelerate growth and innovation, and invest in additional sales and marketing resources.
iHealth Labs makes personal healthcare as easy as using a smartphone app, by manufacturing innovative, mobile personal healthcare products that connect to the cloud. The company offers wireless blood pressure monitors, blood glucose monitors, body analysis scales, pulse oximeters and activity and sleep trackers. These devices allow consumers to accurately measure, track and share a full range of health vitals. And because it directly connects to the cloud, iHealth allows access to a more comprehensive view of the user’s vitals and easily share information with their healthcare providers or even loved ones.
A modular TV that tracks your health
Haier Group Corp. has unveiled a new line televisions that ranges from those with curved screen to others with more to offer at the recently concluded IFA event in Berlin.
One of the TVs Haier unveiled is a modular set that allows consumers to select features by themselves and easily update the software, change the module on the back of the screen for a choice of Full HD (1920 x 1080) or UHD (3840 x 2160), and an option to regularly update the connected TV features in line with technological advancements.
It also features a camera that lets you know the perfect spot to sit for optimal viewing, an alarm that notifies you when you are too close to the TV and when you’re sitting with poor posture, or if you’ve been sitting in front of it for too long. The smart TV also auto adjusts brightness based on ambient light to prevent or reduce eye strain.
If you’re a health buff but not too crazy about wearing any number of health trackers, Haier’s modular TV also incorporates a range of health monitoring and care features. Users can measure blood pressure, weight, sleep cycle quality, and monitor their precise movements from day to day.
6SensorLabs’ food allergen detector
Those with food allergies know how agitating it can be to eat food prepared by others, even in a restaurant. And while some consider serious allergies such as Celiac disease to be a gluten-free diet fad, ignoring food allergy requests can be fatal.
6SensorLabs Inc. is developing a device that aims to help people easily and discreetly detect if there’s gluten in their food. This way, more people can enjoy eating out without having to worry about adverse reactions just because the wait staff decided to ignore the gluten-free request. The device will record and share results of each meal, and enable the creation of a gluten-free map across the globe.
