theCUBE Live At Hadoop Summit 2014
Hadoop was like a honeypot in the early days, attracting plenty of great brains. It was virtually impossible to predict just how far it has come. In a live interview on theCUBE at the Hadoop on the Hudson Party, Robert Novak, a Consulting Systems Engineer at Cisco Systems Inc. recalled the early days of Hadoop.
“Generally [Hadoop] was a skunkworks project, [it] wasn’t something where you knew exactly how it was going to be used and if you were lucky you knew what you wanted it to do and could meld it to your will. It has only be in the last couple of years, where you can go into it knowing what to expect and get where you are expecting to go.”
Many companies out there now have a Big Data play, including Cisco. Novak discussed his company’s unique server architecture at Cisco, called Unified Computing System. In addition, they are working closely with partners in the sales and software worlds, in order to “make people more aware of how the pieces of Big Data fit together.”
“We want to make sure we are connecting our customers with the companies and the partners who are going to make their businesses grow and make the most use of Big Data,” Novak concluded.
