How Techpreneur Dr. Craig Brown Invests in Tomorrow’s Developers
The STEM Resource Partners mission, said Dr. Craig Brown, CEO of STEM Resource Partners and Techpreneur, is designed to “identify resources” from all over the tech spectrum. Funds, training, and certifications from the STEM Resource Partners are granted to a wide variety of recipients. Whether people have a background in tech or not, whether they’re youth or senior citizens, Brown said his organization wants to help those “interested in finding a way of life for themselves and using technology to get there.” The CEO added that the majority of STEM Resource Partners’ investments are in “software, hardware, and in reference to introducing youth to technology.”
One of the simplest and most profound ways to get folks interested is to “bridge interest with something they already know how to do,” explained Brown. He shared an anecdote about a group of children with a passion for gaming that the STEM Resource Partners introduced to online programs that taught the children how to develop games, then improve them. “Technology is fun,” Brown remarked, adding that he believes giving youth access to tech at an early age will foster a lifelong interest — and ideally a career.
Other STEM or tech education programs have an ROI-aspect built into them, but not the STEM Resource Partners. Brown says he’s “paying it forward” by “bringing more technology folks into the world.”
