Nokia N1 vs. iPad mini 3: Can the copycat measure up?

Nokia Oyj unveiled the Nokia N1 this week, a new Android tablet soon to hit the market that looks strikingly similar to Apple Inc.’s iPad mini 3. The question is, does the Nokia N1 have what it takes to compete with Apple’s classic and popular tablet?

Which is better?

It’s hard to say which of these two tablets is the winner, as the Nokia N1 has yet to hit store shelves, and no details have been released on the price. However, as noted in this morning’s earlier coverage of the N1 reveal, Nokia hopes to stand out from rival tablets with a custom Z Launcher interface atop the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, with an adaptive design to learn user behavior over time.

Aside from the physical design, another similarity that the Nokia N1 has with the iPad mini 3 is the 7.9-inch display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536. But some features of the Nokia N1 are better than the iPad mini 3 such as its superior front and back cameras, and a faster clock speed for the N1’s processor.

No news yet as to when the Nokia N1 will be released and how much the device will cost, but if it costs less than the 16GB iPad mini 3 that goes for $399, then Apple may have a new Android rival to worry about, unless they successful sue Nokia for copying their tablet design, as they attempted with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.
