HP Helion takes advantage of the momentum and openness of OpenStack | #HPDiscover
Cloud is changing the game in enterprise storage, and businesses interested in flexibility are looking at alternative options like OpenStack for their storage solutions.
Rob Strechay, Director of Product Management at HP Storage, explained the benefits of using OpenStack in his live interview with theCUBE at HP Discover Barcelona.
“The great thing about OpenStack is it’s got a lot of momentum,” Strechay said. “From a storage perspective, we put our Helion OpenStack distributions into the community, and that’s how it’s picked up in Helion. A lot of it is the momentum, the openness, and giving our customers a lot of choices around how they build their clouds and how they go forward with things like OpenStack.”
Strechay explained that OpenStack is not yet as feature rich or as simple to use as competing services like VMware, but the with the innovation of the opensource environment, OpenStack will continue to grow with its community.
“The feature richness is going to come from people innovating around the ecosystem,” Strechay said. He notes that HP in general frequently talks about on-prem and off-prem systems and how to marry the two. “A lot of people are looking to OpenStack to be that bridge.”
